It is proud to work with Francesco Nepitello the author and inspiration behind these first two RPG books, as well as the famed Tolkien artist John Howe, a long time collaborator on Sophisticated Games’ output, who this time shares graphic honours with artists Tomasz Jedrusek and Jon Hodgson.

The win at Lucca has given The One Ring RPG the momentum as it competes with a sea of role playing games.

The One Ring™ roleplaying game set in JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth continues to gain critical success, winning the prestigious Best of Show award at the Lucca Comics & Games Fair.

Published by Cubicle 7 Entertainment and Sophisticated Games, and designed by Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi, the game lets players tell their own stories in the world of The Hobbit™ and The Lord of the Rings™. The One Ring™ has been nominated for and won a string of awards, including three ENnie Awards at GenCon this summer.

Lead Designer Francesco Nepitello said, “We’re delighted to win the ‘Best of Show’ prize! Our thanks go to everyone who worked on this outstanding international project – especially everyone at Cubicle 7 and Sophisticated Games. Many thanks to Giochi Uniti, the game’s Italian publisher, that presented the Italian edition of The One Ring™ and the first two supplements for the game, Tales from Wilderland and the Loremaster’s Screen and Lake-town Sourcebook, at this year’s show.” – Official Press Release

Lucca Comics & Games is an annual comic book and gaming convention in Lucca, Italy. It takes place, usually, at the end of October. Launched in 1966, the event grew in importance years after years; but it’s only in 2006, for the 40th anniversary, that fair has been moved to the city centre: from that edition, the various pavilions are arranged in different squares of the old town and visitors have access to much wider areas and many more services. With almost 155,000 visitors in 2011, Lucca Comics & Games is the second most popular comic fair in Europe (after the Angoulême Comics Festival, in France) and the third in the world (the first is the Comiket in Tokyo, Japan). – SG

  1. The good old days! I loved the red box D&D set. 99% role play and only 1% of real mechanics, etc. Too fun! The days when Elf, Hobbit, and Dwarf was a “Class”. 🙂
