Ian McKellen to Officiate Patrick Stewart's Wedding

McKellen broke the news during an appearance on the Jonathan Ross show that he will be the officiate for the wedding of his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart.

“I’m going to marry Patrick,” he said. “I am going to officiate at his wedding.”

But what qualifications does the star of The Hobbit and X-Men franchises have to undertake such a task?

“In Massachusetts—we’re in the middle of America somewhere—you get anybody along, a friend, and I read out the words, and Sunny and Patrick will then be married. I declare you man and wife.”, said McKellen going on to say, “done it once before with two guys having a civil partnership…cried my eyes out!”

Sir Ian seemed excited about his duties and the event stating that the last time he performed these duties he wore a “fetching” white gown of white that he bought in India but understanding that, “You mustn’t upstage the bride.”

May the newlyweds live long and prosper!

Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart will reprise their roles in the upcoming movie X-Men: Days of Future Past slated for release July 2014.

Directed by Bryan Singer, The X-Men must travel in time to change a major historical event that could globally impact on man and mutant kind.
