New Star Trek Video Game From Namco Bandai Games

Namco Bandai Games is coming out with a new game this month: Star Trek: The Video Game. Set in the rebooted world of J.J. Abram’s Star Trek film, it features an original story-line and immersive two-player game play with the main characters Kirk and Spock. Though I love the new rebooted film what caught my eye was a video featuring an old classic Star Trek villain – the growling, slurping reptilian Gorn commander with the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner having another fighting round (above).  This time the Gorn will not be seen as one lone lizard commander. The game will feature the Gorn race of in all their variety as  a species. This should be an interesting feature. In the new game the Gorn look more like raptors than the classic Gorn of Star Trek: The Original Series. The object of the game, according to Brian Miller, Senior Vice President of Paramount Pictures, is for Kirk and Spock to work together to stop the Gorn from taking over the Federation. Brian Miller explains how the game came together and gives us a quick over-view of what happens in the game. It does truly have a bit of a Star Wars feel to it as far as the type of action sequences go and the new Star trek crew, headed up by Chris Pine, all lend their voices to the game. Part two is interesting in that Miller talks about how they re-imagined the Gorn and they also added *gulp* lady Gorns to the roster of villains. Some see this game as a travesty that stains the memory of Gene Roddenberry and others are excited about the game. Whatever you may think of Star Trek being a FPS game, it looks bold and interesting.
