Fox and Marvel's Conflict Over Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

From Movie Web – An interesting conflict has developed between two studios and their major film franchises: 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and Marvel Studio’s The Avengers 2. Both hold the rights to use the comic book characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who are also mutant children of Magneto and members of both superhero teams. Possibly, this means that movie-goers will see two versions of these two characters from two different movie studios.

According to Wikipedia, Quicksilver, named Pietro, is the son of Magneto and twin brother of Scarlet Witch. He is a part of the Avengers and was first recruited by his father into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Later he is recruited by Iron Man to join the second generation of Avengers. Scarlet Witch, also named Wanda, was also recruited by her father into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and also later by Iron Man onto the Avenger’s team.

It’s an interesting dilemma. According to Movie Web, the issue surrounds very important arcs in these characters’s lives. Fox Studios can never mention the Avengers, and Marvel Studios can never explain that they are Mutants, or mention the name of their infamous father. After Joss Whedon announced that both of the characters would have significant roles to play in his The Avengers sequel Bryan Singer announced that he had cast Evan Peters as Quicksilver in his upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past. On Spinoff Online it was mentioned that perhaps Bryan Singer’s twitter comment revealed the rancor between the two studios over the issue:“Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.” Joss Whedon was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and while he did not mention anything on Singer’s film, he talks about how important Quicksilver is for his own upcoming Avenger’s sequel and he also drops some hints on doing his Shakespeare adaptation Much Ado About Nothing, which has made the rounds in the film festival circuit starting back in September of 2012: (click link below)

 Not much about the actual controversy between the two studios and this issue over Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Magneto. It will be interesting to see how things eventually pan out.
