In the latest title from DC Comics, Jim Lee teams up with writer Scott Snyder to create Superman Unchained which releases June 12th in time for the premiere of Man of Steel.
“If I got one chance to write Superman ever, this is the story that I’d do. For me, it’s the same way I try and approach Batman where I sort of assume that after this I’m going to get booted off,” said Snyder, the Batman series scribe teaming with Lee on Superman Unchained.
Lee promises that Superman Unchained will bring a new concept of cinematic frames never before seen, “I’ve really tried to do justice to Scott’s scripts and have fun with building up to those big moments. To me, it’s all about the contrasting of compositions,” says Lee.
With the new title comes an old nemesis as Lex Luthor returns, “Hopefully it’ll surprise people in terms of the kind of role he has,” Snyder says. “It’s sort of an unconventional situation that he’s in and he plays. You’re so used to seeing him pay the big bad guy, and here he has to play a different one.”
With Lee as the artist and Snyder exploring all aspects of the Superman mythology, Snyder expresses his excitement, “I’m excited about how it looks on the page,” he says. “It has that feel where it looks like classic Superman and yet brand new and different at the same time.
“It encompasses everything I love and want to explore about the character. It’s as big and crazy as it can get.”
