In an article on KpopStarz, Martin Freeman talks candidly about the fanfare between his current projects – Sherlock and The Hobbit.
Freeman revealed that his role as Dr. Watson on the BBC hit Sherlock is getting more love from fans than his role of Bilbo,
“I think that gets me more fan mail than Bilbo. Not that I think I am the biggest deal in the universe,” adding, “Sherlock is one of the biggest things I will do, ever. We could never have predicted that level of insanity around the series.”
Filming for Sherlock’s season 3 will begin in September with the episode titled “His Last Bow”. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Producer Sue Vertue confirmed a season 4 to the delight of fans.
“There is definitely going to be a fourth series,” said Vertue, “we just haven’t decided when we’re going to do it…I think as long as everyone wants to keep doing it, we’ll keep doing it.”
Benedict Cumberbatch weighed in on the upcoming season of Sherlock with Hypable, “I just got the script and it’s another early birthday present, because it is amazing,” going on to say, “I don’t want to hype it too much because we haven’t made it yet but what a script! Steven Moffat is brilliant.”
But what is Freeman’s thoughts on the popularity of his characters? Who wins, Watson or Bilbo?
“I’d have been quite happy being known as ‘Tim from The Office’ and now Bilbo Baggins and John Watson have come along.”
