I’m always looking for good places to find interesting fantasy and science fiction stories. This time, once again, I have come to find another place for those who love fantasy adventure stories. A venerable, award winning online magazine called Beneath Ceaseless Skies, is an excellent online fantasy short fiction magazine.
Beneath Ceaseless Skies , in their own words is a “SFWA – qualifying, pro-rate online magazine dedicated to publishing the best in literary adventure fantasy.” For readers, Beneath Ceaseless Skies publishes two stories per issue, with a new issue every two weeks. Readers can subscribe free of charge by email notification or by RSS feed, or for a small fee, subscribe to have automatic delivery to your Kindle. They release all issues as ebooks and selected stories as Audio Fiction podcasts. Again, you can subscribe to the online magazine by email, by RSS feed, by Kindle/e-reader.
In regards to writers, they enjoy and want to see stories submitted to them of adventure fantasy. However, they also welcome and encourage short fiction fantasy stories of a literary vein. They also like secondary worlds not set in a world with modern technology like Steampunk, Weird West, etc. They are a paying market. For more information, follow this link to see their submission guidelines.
Another thing that makes this online zine a great place is that selected stories they make into audio podcasts. Their podcast is a parsec award finalist for 2012 and 2013. To subscribe to the podcast and listen to selected stories, subscribe. They release an audio podcast story once a month. This month the show will feature the story The Girl Who Welcomes Death To Svalgearyan. So readers get not only get great online content but great audio content as well. And the audio podcast is free as well. However zines like this need support to continue, so consider supporting them with your dollars through donation, or buying an ebook subscription if you like what you see and hear. Those who subscribe by ebook also get their content before it lands on the website.
