Will Peter Jackson finally get his wish, and be given the keys to the T.A.R.D.I.S.?
According to comments made during an interview at the AdLib Comedy event Doctor Who producer, Steven Moffat, has given fans some possibilities to speculate when he said, “He’s serious about it. We talked at The Hobbit premiere – he just wants a Dalek. So we’ll give him a Dalek and he’ll direct an episode. I think he’d like to us to go to New Zealand. I think it’s entirely possible.”
Jackson’s desire to take the helm of the famed BBC program was no surprise. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jackson had commented on the possibility,
“They don’t even have to pay me. But I have got my eye on one of those nice new gold-colored Daleks. They must have a spare one (hint, hint).”
With the 50th Doctor Who anniversary episode said to be filmed in 3D, one can be sure that the rumor steps closer to reality. Jackson has already trail blazed into the 3D realm with the controversial 48fps used in his Tolkien classic, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, so it makes sense that he would be included in the list of directors. “You’d never get any information like that out of me! We’re theoretically on board for anything – provided we’ve got a great story.” Said Moffat to the rumor. “It’s about time. Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore.”
With the directing success and Oscar win, it excites me to think what level of creativity the Peter Jackson would offer to this classic SciFi show.
BBC’s Doctor Who returns on March 30th.
