Billy Connolly was on Conan and they talked about playing Dain in The Hobbit. And *gasp!* he’s not a Tolkien fan!
We’ve had this conversation before. Of course it helps an actor understand a role if they’re steeped in the mythos, like David Tennant’s passion for Dr Who. But its not required.
Billy Connolly is an amazingly talented actor and musician. His acting range is incredible and I think Billy Bones will be a wonderful dwarf! And of the news we were given in this clip I was more interested in the details of the dwarven cooling system they invented for the costumes and the terribly sad fact that Mr. Connolly has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
