Orlando Bloom Inducted to Walk of Fame

Best wishes to Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom for having a star placed on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame Wednesday night. The talented actor was all smiles with son Flynn in tow. Bloom posed with his new star alongside Hollywood heavyweights such as actor/director and Zulu co-star Forest Whitaker, Pirates of the Caribbean director Jerry Bruckheimer, and Romeo and Juliet director David Leveaux.

English-born Bloom grew up the son of a political activist who passed away with a stroke when the actor was only four years. He discovered later that the man who raised him, Colin Stone, was actually his biological father. In school, Bloom struggled with dyslexia but discovered his true calling while studying the arts. He found a great joy in artistic craftsmanship, studying sculpting, photography, and pottery. With the encouragement of his mother, he began studying poetry and prose, winning accolades for poetry and Biblical recitation at the famed Kent Festival. Bloom decided to pursue professional acting and at sixteen, moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre. After only two seasons, Bloom achieved a scholarship to study with British American Drama Academy. He auditioned and landed small roles on British television, such as Casualty (1986), Midsomer Murders (1997), and Smack the Pony (1999). He also appeared alongside great British talent such as Stephen Fry and Jude Law in the 1997 biopic Wilde.

In 1998, Bloom attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In a story that resembles a fiction weaved from the pages of a classic novel, Bloom performed in a 1999 school production with director Peter Jackson in the audience. Jackson, impressed with Bloom’s talent and poise, asked him to audition for a trilogy he was preparing to film. Bloom graduated from Guildhall and began work on the Lord of the Rings films, which would raise Bloom, at meteoric pace, to international fame. The trilogy would be the catalyst for other films, including Gore Verbinski’s wildly popular Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Due to his success in the Lord of the Rings (and now Hobbit) films, Bloom has starred in many other popular motion pictures, such as Elizabethtown (2006), Love and Other Disasters (2006), and The Three Musketeers (2011), Zulu (2013), a stage-to-film version of Romeo and Juliet (2014), as well as an impressive collection of independent films.
