Although Bob Newhart has already guested on The Big Bang Theory as Professor Proton, a rival scientist to Bill Nye, this spring may see him in another light. In honor of Star Wars Day (May 4th), the CBS comedy will focus entirely on the unofficial geek holiday, “while Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is guided by visions of his childhood idol and mentor, Professor Proton (Emmy winner Bob Newhart), who appears to the socially challenged genius as his own Jedi master.”
Today.com also reports that the episode will feature numerous props, effects, and support from LucasFilm, including a lightsaber. Check out the link to Today.com for all kinds of tidbits and behind-the-scenes information about the making of this very special episode!
This isn’t the first time Sheldon Cooper has been “visited” by his childhood heroes, fictional or not. In “The Transporter Malfunction”, Sheldon dreams of conversing with Star Trek‘s Mr. Spock, voiced of course by Leonard Nimoy.
