The USA Quidditch team is heading into the Quarter Finals to face off against Liechtenstein. It may not be common knowledge that the USA has a Quidditch team, of course. If you didn’t know, but this news surprises and pleases you, you might want to know more. And if you already knew this information, you’re probably a member of Pottermore (www.pottermore.com), and you’ve probably been following the reports of Ginny Potter, (formally Weasley) ,at the Daily Prophet offices in Diagon Alley.
The Quidditch World Cup started this year with a spectacular and memorable Opening Ceremony on April 12th, 2014 (I don’t want to spoil anything for you – log in and read it yourself!), and the most recent news, the match between Wales and Germany (which Wales won) took place on the 22nd of May. Now the Wizarding World (and the enlightened, in-the-know Muggle world) waits with baited breath the outcomes of the Quarter Finals, which are made up of Norway vs. Bulgaria, USA vs. Liechtenstein, Brazil vs. Wales, and Japan vs. Nigeria.
For those who don’t want to create a Pottermore account, or visit Diagon Alley, updates, as well as a useful Tournament Bracket, can be found at Pottermore Insider. Though joining Pottermore is more than worth the time, if you’re a fan of Harry Potter. The site allows visitors to interact with scenes from the books, visit Diagon Alley, go shopping for wizarding supplies, buy schoolbooks, get chosen by a wand, get sorted, and perhaps most interesting of all, gives members the chance to view new writing and background information written by J.K. Rowling, exclusively for the site.
If the Muggle sport you usually follow isn’t playing right now, and you’re not a fan of baseball but you are a fan of fantasy, or you just really, really liked the scenes in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire that involved the famous Ireland vs. Bulgaria match, following the Quidditch World Cup might just be what you’re looking for.
I seriously miss Harry Potter even these small new snip-its of information bring a tear to my eye and make me so happy to read them
