Back in April, Jay Johnstone talked to John Rhys-Davies at the Newcastle Film and ComicCon about his many projects including an upcoming FOX series, Hieroglyph.

“…This one will be a winner!” Rhys-Davies proclaimed proudly in the Legendarium interview.

Unfortunately for the Lord of the Rings star as Entertainment Weekly reports, Fox has decided to cancel the project before it airs. The first episode of the program had already been filmed with several scripts ready but as Entertainment Weekly reports from Executives, “the series wasn’t creatively coming together the way executives had hoped.”

The cancellation of the Egyptian drama came after the departure of Fox Programming boss, Kevin Reilly, who originally approved 13 episodes of the series. There was no mention if Fox will release the one episode.Could possible budget costs of the show been too ambitious that ultimately led to the decision to bury the project?

Check out the trailer below to learn more about Hieroglyph. Did FOX make the wrong decision? What do you think of the concept of the show? Let us know in the comments.

“The world of ancient Egypt – a time of magic, Pharaohs, gods and thieves – lives again in HIEROGLYPH, an exciting action adventure series from the mind of creator/executive producer Travis Beacham (“Pacific Rim,” “Clash of the Titans”).” John Rhys-Davies will play the dashing Thief mentor, Vocifer, to the lead character, Ambrose.

  1. If you keep on working with this concept it will have a very good chance to replace some of the great series of today, it could be the next Game of Thrones, maybe even the next The Walking Dead. Please keep working on this, it has true chances to become something big!
