Best Fandom Forever!

There is no further proof of the rise of geek culture into the mainstream than this- MTV is hosting the very first MTVU Fandom awards, where various shows, movies, series, etc. will be celebrated by the fans and for the fans. This is a far cry from the MTV many of us grew up with!

The real online contest is the Best Fandom Forever award. Fans of Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Batman and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, are all encouraged to vote for their favorite. How do you vote? Well, there’s the tricky bit. You have to have a Tumblr, because Tumblr is the accepted place where fandom really thrives. You just go to the main voting page and reblog or like your favorite. There are even awesome posters to support that which makes your heart beat faster.

There are other ways to support your favorite fandoms as well, even if they aren’t nominated for the Best Fandom Forever award. Check out the MTV site and make sure to show some love for the things that make your life enjoyable.

The award show is set to air on July 27th. I know I, for one, think this might be the first time in ages that MTV may be worth watching!
