J.K. Rowling’s Amazing Kindness
Perhaps it’s not much of surprise that a woman who wrote about goodness defeating evil practices what she preaches, but in an age that grows increasingly cynical, it’s still nice to have some confirmation. And when you hear that someone has donated so much of their money that they are no longer a billionaire, you know that goodness is real.
News outlets shared the story of Cassidy Stay, who watched her whole family get murdered and quoted Dumbledore at their funeral – only to find a handwritten letter from Dumbledore in her mailbox (among other goodies!) But if you look at JKR’s track record, you’ll find that it’s really par for the course. Her good deeds include writing books with the intention of donating the proceeds to charity (one of these books sparking the new ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movie series we fans are so excited about), reading parts of her upcoming but yet unpublished Harry Potter book to a dying child, and, let’s be honest, inspiring literacy and a new influx of well written young adult novels for all upcoming generations. And that’s just scratching the surface.
It’s nice to know that Voldemort wouldn’t be able to influence his creator, any more than he was able to influence Harry to join the dark side.
Robyn Stone-Kraft
Robyn was a fan of fantasy before she was aware there were even other entertainment options. She’s been a writer just as long as she’s been a fantasy fan. In D&D she plays Wizard, she was sorted into Slytherin, she supports House Lannister, flirts with Garrus Vakarian, supports the Imperial Empire, and she has a favorite Doctor. She also has more degrees in Literature than most people tend to consider a good life choice, has somehow managed to get some of her poetry published, and gets to fail college students who decide they don’t have to turn in their assignments. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her husband, four cats, and huge personal library.
