It is a given that nowadays, no self-respecting party involving dressing-up (especially without a strict theme) would certainly boast an Elf or two among those present.
What do we like about Tolkien’s Elves so much? Is it their beauty and apparent immortality (the former – indisputable, the latter – with a few suitably romanticised exceptions)? Could it be their androgynousness (both sexes could feel kick-ass disguised as Legolas), or otherworldliness (one feels exceptional, standing besides the drinks table and chattering away in Sindarin), or just the fact that they are handy with a bow and a bunch of arrows. Whatever you think of them, the Elves are here to stay. For the party season, at least.
And should you wish to disguise yourself as one…
Lady Arwen Undomiel, of course, is one of the best-known Elves (although heck knows, we have not met Tauriel as yet…), and a great choice if you like the idea of otherworldly beauty, or perhaps are just a bit too tired of the whole “tomboy” thing. A few videos below should get you inspired…

Another idea for the hairstyle…
As an Elf princess, you could also be interested in making your own Elf tiara:
The dress fit for an Elf could be an old wedding or ball gown transformed… This video is to inspire you and get ideas flowing…
And the best thing about Elves – there are just as many great costume options for guys too! Notwithstanding the fact that the YouTube blogger demonstrating the styles is actually female – if it is your dream to go as Legolas or Elrond, here is a guide about what to do with your hair to pass for an Elf (and if you do not envisage yourself as either Arwen or Galadriel anyway).
Elrond:
But, as we all know, the best thing about Elves, is, of course, the ears. The Ears, which have been the subject of many a discussion (apparently, Tolkien himself claimed that the Elves’ ears were only slightly pointed to resemble a leaf – but then Peter Jackson came onto the scene). If you feel you cannot possibly feel like an Elf without some really pointy ears, here is how to make them (but bear in mind, the process is quite painstaking and time-consuming):
Awesome! Love this…
