As fans all over the globe are holding their breath in the anticipation of the newest season of the “Game of Thrones,” let us turn to topics no less exciting. After all, Halloween is nigh – and so are the parties, the all-night revels, and even the occasional forays trick-or-treating (just as much fun as they used to be in the fourth grade!). That means one thing – costumes. Whether you are a whiz at making your own, or your creative wits run dry at wrapping yourself in a sheet and calling yourself a Ghost of an Unnamed Westeros Inhabitant to make it more dramatic and interesting, chances are – you’ll be racking your brains for the costume ideas throughout the coming month.
Some years ago, when “Lord of the Rings” became the greatest pop culture news in an extremely long run, any self-respecting costume party would have had at least two or three Arwens and Aragorns and quite a few Nazgul (whose costumes are pure joy of sheer simplicity to make), not to mention an odd Gollum prowling about. Many of us would undoubtedly grin with fond recollection at the mention of Star Wars character costumes, and the author herself reminisces warmly about a particular masked ball event which she attended dressed up as Xena the Warrior Princess… However, this year, so it appears, “Game of Thrones” is going to be the dish of the day at any self-respecting themed (or non-themed) events.
So, whether you are a Joffrey or a Khal Drogo, a Cersei or an Arya, or even if you wish to make an entrance as a dragon or a direwolf, here are a few light-hearted style tips to whet your appetite and ease you into the costume-wearing season – preparing for Halloween starting now…
