When the teaser trailer for the new Star Wars film released, I like many, watched it a million times! During my excitement, I had also wondered…”Who was the voice narrating?”
Based on some rumors floating around the internet, I initially thought it was accomplished voice actor and original cast member Mark Hamill. It had been rumored that Mark Hamill would play the “villain” role in the next film as Luke “falls to the Dark Side”. I also wondered if it was Benedict Cumberbatch. I was wrong on both speculations…
As reported by The Nerdist,
Collider revealed that it was Andy Serkis, and Hitfix received confirmation — it is indeed the Lord of the Rings and Planet of the Apes star. “For the record, that is Andy Serkis you hear in the trailer,” says Drew McWeeny. “I was able to verify this, although I was not able to uncover any further information about the role he plays. Here’s what I do know, though. He’s playing a pivotal role in the film, although he will not have a lot of screen time.”[Source]
When Andy Serkis was announced as a cast member for The Force Awakens, it was assumed that he would be playing the role of some CGI alien creature, much like his roles in Lord of the Rings, King Kong and Planet of the Apes. With the confirmation above, it is clear that Serkis has a much larger role. Possibly…Sith Lord?
Time will tell, as more information and trailers come out over the next year. How great would Serkis be as a Dark Jedi? Let us know what you think in the comments.
